Borussia Dortmund are ‘suddenly trembling’ at the idea of coming up against Alexander Isak with Newcastle United in the Champions League this week.
That’s according to BILD, who say the German side are not looking forward to facing their former player, who has now become a ‘superstar’ at St James Park.
They explain that Isak has gone ‘from flop to superstar’ over the last few years following his disappointing spell with Dortmund earlier in his career.
None of the BVB bosses trusted the striker, who had been bought from AIK for €8.6m but struggled to impress after his arrival.
That loan deal and eventual move to Spain was ‘the beginning of a fairytale’ for the striker that saw him manage 44 goals and eight assists in 132 games for the club before he joined Newcastle last year.
He’s been ‘shaking up the Premier League’ since and managed 17 goals and three assist in 38 games for the club to date, a record that now has his former club trembling.
They’re concerned that Isak wants to ‘settle a revenge score’ in Wednesday’s clash, which is vital to their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
A win for Newcastle in that game can ‘seriously hurt’ Borussia Dortmund’s chances and now the added concern is that Isak could ‘become the nail in the coffin’ and prove those that doubted him at BVB that they were wrong to do so.
