Newcastle United are unlikely to make a move for Atlético Madrid forward Joao Félix, despite being one of the clubs who could afford him.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Magpies are ‘moving in much more conservative figures’ when it comes to the transfer market.

The newspaper says it is now ‘inevitable’ that Felix will be leaving Atlético in the coming months, with the club having accepted that his relationship with Diego Simeone has deteriorated to a point that the player needs to depart.

This is something that the club’s CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has admitted publicly, and it now remains to be seen where the Portuguese star ends up.

The big issue is who will sign him for the figure that Atlético will ask for, with them determined to recoup the €127m they paid to sign him.

While it ‘seems almost impossible’ for that to happen it’s what the Spanish club want, and such a figure rules out the vast majority of clubs in world football.

Newcastle United are one of those with the financial backing to pull it off and have been named as a potential destination but ‘there are doubts’ about whether they would do so.

Despite having the ‘financial muscle’ to compete with anyone that’s to their Saudi owners, it’s stated that they are ‘moving in much more conservative figures’ when it comes to bolstering their squad.

While Newcastle have been happy to splash the cash on signings so far, they have been considerably more modest than the €127m it would take to Felix.

Thus, it seems unlikely they will be a part of the bidding, even if they are among the six clubs that could afford such a deal.
