On Monday evening, Gianluca Di Marzio talked about Newcastle United’s interest in AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw.
Calciomercato provide the latest on the Magpies pursuit of the defender and a background on what happened earlier this year.
The Serie A side’s intention is to keep their squad intact and improve it by signing new players this summer. Thiaw is a key part of Milan’s project, but they may have to make a decision on his future, mainly because of his agent and Newcastle’s interest.
It’s claimed the 22-year-old’s agent has been working to take him to the Premier League since January. Newcastle had approached the Rossoneri in June, but the negotiations didn’t progress as they didn’t make a written offer.
Eddie Howe’s side have restarted contacts with the player’s agency in the last few hours.
Paulo Fonseca’s side intend to retain the centre-back but will not keep any players who aren’t willing to continue at the San Siro. At the same time, they are requesting a ‘lot of money’, at least €40m, to let the player leave in this window.
Calciomercato claim Milan have communicated this to Thiaw’s agent, who will have passed the message to Newcastle.
