Newcastle United’s interest in Wolfsburg midfielder Lukas Nmecha is highlighted by Sky Sport Deutschland.
The outlet’s big story is actually about Borussia Dortmund’s chase for the player, as the Bundesliga side look for a replacement for Jude Bellingham.
A difficulty the German side may find is the competition from Newcastle, which could result in a ‘tug of war’ for the signing.
It’s claimed that the Magpies last scouted Nmecha in Wolfsburg’s match against TSG Hoffenheim in May, and are also keen on landing him this summer.
Now that Borussia Dortmund’s pursuit has ‘now grown to great interest’, the battle may be reaching the decisive stages.
It turns out that Sky quote their reporter Philipp Hinze claiming it’s the Bundesliga side who currently have the lead in the race for Nmecha.
“A BVB transfer for Nmecha is currently more likely than to the island,” he said.
This week, we had already seen a report from Sky claiming Newcastle have three options for midfield, and Nmecha is the cheapest of them, as he may cost just €25m.
Now with Dortmund entering the picture, perhaps the Magpies’ easiest target will become a little more complicated.
