Newcastle United failed in a summer move for Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi.

The Italian side wanted to keep the player as manager Cristian Chivu had major plans for him in the season.

It was later claimed Newcastle United remain interested in the midfielder. They have now been given hope of signing him in January. Calciomercato it take a look at the Italian’s future, reporting the player is ‘completely at the fringes’ at the Nerazzurri.

He’s been on the bench in the last two Serie A games, playing only 198 minutes in the league.

Now, he could ask to be sold or ask his agent – Beppe Riso, to seek a new club.

Napoli are interested in the Italy international but a deal with Inter will be quite complicated. The Serie A champions would have to put a significant offer on the table to sign Frattesi. A move to Juventus has been described as ‘impossible’.

That is why, the report claims, the Premier League is in ‘pole position’ to land the player.

Newcastle United would have to pay €30m for Frattesi, whose value has reduced in the last few months.
