The Brazilian version of Goal today shares a few details of Newcastle United’s effort to sign Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimarães;

According to the outlet, the signing is underway, as there have been advances in the talks and ‘only details between clubs and the player’s staff’ need to be sorted out before the move can be made official.

And it turns out the Magpies were not alone in the race, as the report says that, as well as known interest from Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers were keen on signing the 24-year-old as well.

Goal claims that the Wolves ‘had shown interest in the Brazilian midfielder in this last transfer window’, but it seems they could not compete with the Magpies for the signing.

It’s said Newcastle are offering Lyon €40m for the signing, all paid at once. They took advantage of the French side’s need for money to get to an agreement now.

Bruno Guimarães is currently in Ecuador, where Brazil play on Thursday night. He’s soon returning to his home country for the match against Paraguay on Tuesday, and that’s where he’s set to have his medical ahead of the Magpies move.
