Newcastle United have been in the hunt for Marco Palestra and have now made a formal approach.
The wingback was one of the standout players in the 2025/26 Serie A campaign. The Atalanta player impressed in a loan at Cagliari and this helped him earn a call up to the Italian national team.
Inter Milan have been keen on the 21-year-old in recent weeks. An initial approach has been rejected, with Sport Witness having covered how the youngster also appeals to Newcastle United, Liverpool and Manchester City.
As the situation becomes more serious, details of Magpies’ interest are now emerging.
First approach rejected

Inter are growing confident about a deal too. This is largely because Denzel Dumfries is on his way to Real Madrid and his exit will bring in vital finances for the Italian champions.
As things stand, their offer is at only €40m. Atalanta’s valuation stands at €50m and Newcastle United have matched that already with their own offer.
But the player wants to stay in Italy. He has rejected the Magpies’ approach and is waiting for Inter to raise their own bid.
Inter and Atalanta have what has been described as an ‘excellent relationship’. They dealt with each other for Ademola Lookman last year and this has only helped.
Magpies should move on
It feels like Palestra is very keen on playing for a club that competes for trophies and will play in Europe next season. Newcastle United can’t guarantee him either, even if they played in the Champions League in the 2025/26 campaign.
Ideally, the youngster could’ve been a very good long-term replacement for Kieran Trippier. He can also play on the left, which is another bonus.
With regret, Eddie Howe’s side have no option but to move on. Not everything comes down to paying capacity and it is a sign that they have to come back on track in the Premier League as soon as possible.
