Yankuba Minteh is a player the Dutch media can’t seem to make their minds up about. One day they’ll say he’s too raw and could be doing much more for Feyenoord, and the next they’ll hype his level and talk about a longer stay in the Netherlands.
Newcastle United loaned the young attacker to Feyenoord for the current season, hoping he’d get some games and be able to progress more than he would do sat on a Premier League bench.
That’s gone reasonably well from a Magpies perspective, with Minteh getting minutes and the experience he very much needs.
Saturday’s edition of AD has a big article on the player, and it’s once again a mixed bag of praise and criticism. Some feel that Minteh has great attributes such as speed but that other areas of his game are vastly lacking.
Despite that, there’s once again talk of a longer stay in Dutch football, and Feyenoord are looking to ask Newcastle United for another loan move.
Dennis te Kloese, the Eredivisie club’s technical director, is quoted as saying. “Newcastle United will discuss this in April. But he’s getting better. His speed is incredible and he is still very young.”
