Newcastle United are continuing to follow Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini and recently watched him in a friendly.
That’s according to Sky Sport Italy, who report that Newcastle are continuing to target the centre-back after months of interest.
They report that Newcastle have great interest in the Atalanta star, although they have not made an offer yet. If they do, they will have to contend with the Italian side’s unwillingness to sell the centre-back this summer.
Still, Newcastle’s interest is there, and they reportedly closely monitored the player during Atalanta’s recently friendly against their U23’s.
Scalvini is an old target and they’ve been monitoring him for months, with various reports in Italy making it clear that they’re interested and pushing for a move this summer.
Sky do pull back on that and report that Newcastle haven’t made any offers as yet and still need to decide if they wish to do so. Atalanta, for their part, have set a high price tag on their man as they don’t want to sell.
Newcastle scouting him during a friendly is seen as a sign of their desire, although some might argue it also hints at the creeping desperation that seems to be currently enveloping St James Park.
