Newcastle United are asking for $15m to sell Miguel Almirón this month, with River Plate still interested in him.
That’s according to Soy del Millo, who report that the Argentine side have already been in touch about a move this month.
They state that El Millonario ‘conducted a survey’ for the Paraguayan forward after months of being linked with him.
The website explains that Almirón’s name has ‘rang loudly’ at the club. This transfer window is seen as the opportunity to get him as he’s lost his place at Newcastle. The Magpies has also not ruled out a transfer.
That did not go unnoticed by River’s leadership. They consulted the Premier League side about a transfer this month. They are one of several teams interested in Almirón, with sides in the MLS also keen.
However, they received something of a negative response from the forward, who also outlined Newcastle’s intentions for him.
“River looked for Miguel Almirón and the answer was: ‘It is not our intention to return to South America.’ In addition, they are asking for $15m from Newcastle,” journalist Hernán Castillo is quoted as saying on the matter.
That, then, should put an end to River Plate’s effort to get Almirón from Newcastle. It appears he’s not interested in the move and the Magpies’ asking price is high anyway.
Of course, players can always be talked around and perhaps River won’t give up, but for now, their prospects look slim.
