On Wednesday, Miguel Almirón came off the bench in Newcastle United’s 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers and it was his eighth league appearance of this season.
The winger has been linked to several clubs and his future could be away from Newcastle.
Atlético Mineiro and Atlanta United are two clubs to have made approaches for the 30-year-old in the winter market.
That’s according to Rádio Itatiaia, and they state the Brazilian club have failed to sign the Newcastle player.
Atlético Mineiro are looking to improve their attack in this window and identified Almirón as one of the targets. It’s claimed they made a €7.5m bid for the Paraguay international, but it was turned down by the Magpies.
Recent claims from the UK have stated Eddie Howe’s side need over $10m [€9.7m] to sanction his sale. Rádio Itatiaia relay that and add that Atlanta United are negotiating close to this figure to bring their former player back to the club.
The South American spent three years with the American club before joining Newcastle in January 2019. In order to ‘seduce’ the attacker, the MLS side are offering a salary of $5m [€4.8m] per year.
Journalist César Luis Merlo took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide more on this case.
He claims Atlanta United have ‘advanced negotiations’ with Newcastle over a move for the player. They are also negotiating with Almirón, who has given the ‘green light’ to return to the club.
The deal will go through if the two clubs can come to an agreement.
