Newcastle United have been keen on signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, but despite repeat efforts haven’t managed to reach a deal.
The Georgia international excelled for the La Liga side last season, keeping 13 clean sheets and conceding 41 goals from 37 games. He has extended his good form at the Euros, a big reason his country have made it to the knockout stage.
Friday’s Sport states the 23-year-old shining is of big help to Valencia and their valuation of him.
Newcastle have shown interest in the stopper. In fact, the report claims they have ‘put the most pressure on’ to sign him. It’s claimed the Magpies’ offer of around €25m didn’t convince the Spanish club as it was €15m short of their demand.
El Chiringuito TV journalist Germán Muñoz claims the player’s entourage are stating that Valencia are now requesting €60m, given his rise to fame.
Mamardashvili’s contract lasts until 2027, and Valencia are rubbing their hands at the possibility of earning big through his sale this summer.
