Newcastle United were repeatedly linked with Hugo Ekitike during the January transfer window, with the Magpies reportedly making several efforts to sign the forward from Reims.

The 19-year-old was against a winter move, which aligned with his club, and he remained in France for the second half of the season.

Newcastle haven’t given up, with the club repeatedly linked with the player in recent weeks.

They’re not the one ones keen on him, with AS Roma Live saying the club they cover also have Ekitike in their plans for the summer. Tiago Pinto is the man in charge of transfers for the Italian side, and there’s now worry that any move for the Reims player could be ruined.

That’s because Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund are also in the picture, and could provide competition which is just too difficult for Jose Mourinho’s side to overcome.

Dortmund are likely set to lose Erling Haaland, and it’s thought Ekitike is one of the options they have to replace the Norwegian.
