Newcastle United’s Yankuba Minteh is currently on loan at Feyenoord and starred in his side’s 6-0 win over Ajax on Sunday.
The winger scored a brace and registered an assist against the Amsterdam club, and has made it to Algemeen Dagblad’s team of the week. In fact, the Dutch newspaper have hailed the 19-year-old as the best in the Eredivisie, by giving him the highest rating of 9/10.
Journalist Willem van Hangegem, writing in his column for AD, has taken a dig at Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as he defends the Newcastle owned player.
The Gambia international has been criticised at times by the Dutch media for failing to find his teammates while attacking.
After his impressive display against Ajax, Van Hangegem has backed Minteh. He did that by mentioning the Manchester United manager and his tactics.
“People can keep complaining about Yankuba Minteh, but he has me on the edge of my seat. He defends at the highest pace and he continues to look for his man,” he said.
“Of course, he sometimes makes the wrong choice. So what? At Manchester United, all players make the wrong choices almost the entire match and we pretend that Erik ten Hag just needs a little time.”
Manchester United have struggled in the league this season and have failed to win any of their last three games. Recent claims in England have stated Ten Hag’s Old Trafford future is uncertain, even though he wants to be part of INEOS’ new project next season.
Meanwhile, Minteh has said Newcastle will have to make a decision on where he will play next season.
