Back in October, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali held a meeting with his agent Beppe Riso and this sparked transfer talk in Italy. Indeed, anything from the Magpies midfielder can spark transfer chatter in the Italian media.
Juventus’ interest in the midfielder was pushed. The Bianconeri placed the Azzurri star at the top of their shortlist, after Cristiano Giuntoli failed to sign him last summer.
However, this was dismissed quickly by sources close to SportWitness. We were informed that the meeting between the player and his agent was a ‘routine’ one, subsequently it wasn’t related to a possible exit from Newcastle United.
This hasn’t stopped the Italian press from talking about Tonali, though. Calciomercato today write about his situation once again.
The report describes the 25-year-old as the ‘number one target for Juventus’. Despite numerous management changes in Turin, Tonali retains everyone’s admiration.
The summer of 2026 could be when Newcastle United finally part ways with him. It’s believed Magpies are likely to demand at least €60m for him, even if the price-tag seems fairly low to simply bring Juve into the picture.
There’s optimism Juve can offer a salary of €7m after tax to Tonali. This would be possible after Dusan Vlahovic’s exit, with the Serbian earning €12m per season in Turin. This salary can lure Tonali to Turin, even if competition from England is likely to be a big challenge.
Numbers need to be higher for Newcastle United star
The Italian giants can also move on other players and earn capital gains to sign the ex-AC Milan player. Juventus could sell Teun Koopmeiners, Douglas Luiz, and Lois Openda to generate key finances.
Another condition they have to meet is Champions League qualification. Without that, the Newcastle United midfielder is beyond reach.
Juventus’ desire for Tonali is no secret and a summer swoop is a likelihood. However, their numbers simply need to go higher, both in terms of transfer fee and salary for the player.
