Paraguayan outlet Versus managed to have a chat with the country’s current biggest football star, Miguel Almiron.

The Newcastle United player had a long conversation about how things have been going for him in the Premier League, and the plans he has for the time he leaves the Magpies.

First speaking of positioning and tactics, Almiron talked about his favourite role on the pitch, and the way Steve Bruce changes the team depending on the opponents they face.

“I feel more comfortable playing as a second striker or in midfield, looser. But I don’t have a problem playing as a left or right winger either. The player has to adapt, but being honest I feel more comfortable playing as a second striker, finding more the ball”, Almiron told Versus.

“I think we’re going to move on. The Premier is a very difficult tournament, there are very good teams and very good players. If we play against City or Liverpool, we’re a little more defensive. Now, we are being a little more offensive.”

Then regarding his future, there were two subjects to talk about. Almirón first commented on the short term, as in where he sees himself in the coming years.

“I have a goal which is to try to continue playing in Europe. Improve my football and reach great clubs. I’m enjoying right now.”

Then regarding a potential return to Paraguay, the midfielder claimed there’s a specific club he’d like to go back to.

“Going back to Cerro would be very nice. Every player who leaves the club who’s a fan, always thinks about coming back. I’m a Cerro fan and if I go back to Paraguay I want to play there. I respect Olimpia a lot, but I left Cerro, I did all the academy at Cerro, which is like my second home and if I go back to Paraguay, it will be only Cerro.”

Signed from Atalanta United in a €24m deal in 2019, Almiron has a contract with Newcastle running until 2024.
