The situation of Brazil defender Viery is heating up and it should alert Newcastle United.

Last month, Sport Witness covered how the Magpies had made an initial offer for the defender. This was rejected but the Brazilian press stated their interest hadn’t gone away.

Other Premier League clubs like Nottingham Forest have also been in the picture but they haven’t made any offers.

The Gremio player has had his first full season in 2026, having come through the club’s youth academy. He played 13 times in the league, playing five times in the Copa Sudamericana as well.

Attention around him continues to grow and attempts are ongoing to seal a transfer.

Gremio hunting for offers

Calciomercato IT state the defender has caught the attention of many clubs in Europe. Newcastle United’s interest finds mention but AS Roma and Juventus have also been actively scouting Viery.

The outlet also praises the 21-year-old’s technical and physical ability, promoting him in the best possible light.

They also suggest that before Juve’s management shake-up, they floated the idea of a €17m offer to Gremio.

Gremio want the money, with Viery’s agent set to pursue a transfer. He will fly to Europe to personally negotiate a deal and help the player get his transfer.

Push for a transfer

Previously, there have been suggestions that Viery has a release clause worth €50m and Gremio are refusing any offers below that. That was probably just a way to establish the player’s value.

A deal will be done for much less, and Newcastle United will be aware of that.
