Ever since Ferran Torres left Manchester City and arrived at Barcelona, in a deal worth €55m for the Premier League club, there have been questions and doubts around him.
There’s also been some good patches of form for the forward, but there’s a general consensus that Barcelona overpaid for the player, especially as they were entering their financial crisis.
That feeling may be further underlined today, as it’s reported in Spain that Newcastle United have made an offer for the player. That claim comes from Jigantes, who state Eddie Howe’s side are offering €15m plus a further €5m in potential bonuses payments.
That’s obviously a long, long way from the fee Barcelona paid.
Torres scored 11 goals and added four assists last season, playing in a variety of attacking roles. The 24-year-old has a contract lasting until 2027, and there’s no indication of what Barcelona will make of this offer from Newcastle United.
That will likely be clarified by the Spanish media at some point this afternoon.
