The Portuguese media seems to be slowing accepting the idea that Viktor Gyokeres may only stay at Sporting for just one season.

The Lions signed the striker from Coventry City last summer, and just yesterday, we had already covered a story about the big rise in his market value for an upcoming transfer.

Now as newspaper Record write about the player, we even get to see Newcastle United named as one of the clubs who’ve been trying to sign him.

It all starts with the outlet claiming that Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla are the newest clubs to join the race for the striker, who had a great start at his new club with eight goals and two assists in nine appearances.

Then Record recall that Newcastle had been the strongest contenders to bring the player to the Premier League in the summer, with AC Milan also interested.

That’s interesting because even though the Magpies were indeed linked, it never seemed like they put such a strong effort in back then.

Sporting are sure they don’t want to lose Gyokeres in the middle of the season, as they’re hopeful he can help them to win the league title.

However, after spending €20m to sign him in the summer, they already see Transfermarkt having his price at €32m, and if he continues as he’s been going the amount will rise quickly. That will create a very tempting scenario to sell him next year, and we shall see if Newcastle will be back for him.
