Newcastle United and Manchester City are today both dragged into the Ronald Araujo saga.
With Barcelona having a hard time convincing the centre-back to sign a contract extension at the club, El Chiringuito journalist Marcos Benito shares some updates on the situation.
It’s said that even though Araujo had been open to fitingt into Barça’s financial reality when negotiating a new deal last year, he’s now changed his mind and will prioritise a good salary.
That’s where Newcastle and Manchester City are brought in, as they’re both said to be interested in taking him to England. Even though Manchester United also watch the situation, the Red Devils have other priorities, making the Magpies and the Sky Blues the ‘best placed’ in the race.
The crazy claim here is that Barcelona are said to be demanding €120m for the sale, even though there are just two years left on his contract.
Benito only mentions the amount that Newcastle would like to pay, as it’s stated the Magpies can bid something between €70m and €80m for the signing.
We must just say that stories like this are very common while players are negotiating new deals, and Premier League clubs are often dragged in so athletes get better conditions to renew their contracts. So we should soon see if the English sides will actually try to get Araujo this summer.
