Newcastle United have stepped forward for Dusan Vlahovic, whose situation at Juventus is increasingly uncertain.

As things stand, the Serbian’s contract in Turin runs out in the summer. He has had a season which has been impacted by injuries, recently returning from a groin issue and calf problems.

The striker scored a well-taken goal against Lecce at the weekend, helping Juve to a 1-0 win.

This came days after he scored an important equaliser against Hellas Verona. Despite problems across the campaign, his impact in the Champions League race is clear to see. Juve find themselves in the top four right now and Vlahovic’s contributions have come in at the right time.

Sport Witness have previously covered English interest in him, with Tottenham mentioned as possible suitors. Time is running out for a new deal and Newcastle United are attempting a move.

Vlahovic lays down conditions for move

Today’s TuttoSport takes note of the Serbia international’s situation, ticking off his possible options in the summer. There’s no shortage of clubs who can sign him but things haven’t gone in the right direction yet.

Juve are also hesitating about whether they can afford to hand him a hefty wage, a signing-on bonus and commission to his agent.

Interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona has hovered but it hasn’t led to anything concrete. The German side made enquiries but Vlahovic doesn’t want to play second-fiddle to Harry Kane.

More recently, Atletico Madrid have also stepped forward. Even they may not offer regular first-team minutes, unless Alexander Sorloth departs.

In the meantime, Newcastle United interest has emerged. They have enquired about the conditions of a deal, trying to understand the financials that would be involved.

The Magpies may not appeal to the striker. Even if they can hand him regular football, he is keen to play in the Champions League. Eddie Howe’s side will not play any European football next season, making them less attractive.

As a result, the forward could seriously consider staying in Turin.

Deal risky for Newcastle United

Dusan Vlahovic’s goalscoring abilities can never be doubted. His finish against Lecce was spectacular. Even when Juve struggled for service under Max Allegri, he managed to get goals.

His fitness hasn’t been quite as great. Muscle injuries have caught up – as evident from the ongoing campaign. That is why Newcastle United should think carefully.

Even if Vlahovic is available for free, he is in a position to command high wages. His entourage will demand big commission, with the player also wanting a signing-on bonus.
