Newcastle United have made an approach for Fiorentina striker Arthur Cabral, according to claims from South America.
Goal Brasil writes that the Magpies are one of the clubs interested in signing the 24-year-old in the January transfer window.
It’s claimed that Newcastle, Atletico Madrid and Udinese have all got in touch with the player’s agents, with the Colchoneros’ call taking place on Monday morning.
Goal Brasil say that none of those clubs made formal offers for the signing yet, even though they ‘closely follow’ the player’s situation at the Serie A side.
According to the story, Fiorentina have no intention of letting Arthur Cabral move now. That’s why they told the interested clubs that they’d only let him go for the price of his release clause, which stands at €40m.
That amount, however, is believed to be an obstacle for any club to sign him in the January transfer window.
Arthur Cabral joined Fiorentina in a €15m move from Basel in January 2022, and had been linked to several English clubs at that time, including Newcastle. Playing for the Italian club this season, he has five goals in 21 appearances.
