Newcastle United are on the verge of selling Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italy international has already travelled to London to carry out the transfer related formalities. Prior to this, he said Roberto De Zerbi was key in his decision to pick Spurs over other clubs.
Tonali’s impending exit would see Newcastle United look for a midfielder this summer.
Juventus’ Khéphren Thuram has been an option while there’s been claims of a few other players.
New target for Newcastle United
Eddie Howe’s side are also looking at VfB Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller. That’s according to Kicker, who covers the Magpies’ interest and the Bundesliga side’s stance.
Towards the end of last summer, Manchester United made an attempt and failed to sign the 25-year-old because of the limited time.
Newcastle United have now become the defensive midfielder’s latest suitor and are keen on securing his services.
Stiller has a €36.5m release clause, and the Magpies or another club can activate it after convincing him.
The German club can get rid of this by making a one-time payment of €2m to the player. This will then allow them to set their own price to sanction his exit.
Stuttgart’s desire is to retain the Germany international, but Kicker warns them the reality could be different, especially when English clubs are involved.
Magpies can use same formula for Stiller
Last summer, Newcastle United made a late move to snatch Nick Woltemade for around €75m. Stuttgart, who faced the reality, ‘had no choice’ but to sell him.
Eddie Howe’s side can replicate the Woltemade success to sign Angelo Stiller this summer.
The Magpies could submit a tempting offer, only if his €36.5m release clause is no longer valid.
For now, the Tyneside club are only showing interest and there’s no indication whether they plan to submit an offer.
Stiller has two years left on his contract, and Transfermarkt value him at €45m. He played 4,249 minutes from 52 matches, managing two goals and 10 assists, last season.
