The Portuguese media sounds pretty sure that Newcastle United will try to sign a new centre-back in the summer.
The Magpies are being linked to the defensive duo that Sporting have been using this season.
As newspaper O Jogo features a long story about Ousmane Diomande and all the interest he’s been drawing, they point out that Newcastle are one of the clubs who are interested in him.
The outlet then adds that the Magpies have also ‘been watching’ his defensive partner Gonçalo Inácio.
For now, there’s no information on offers from Newcastle for the duo, and despite all the competition there is for both players, it seems all clubs are waiting for the transfer window to be closer.
Diomande is protected by an €80m release clause, while Gonçalo Inácio can be signed for a little less, as his stands at €60m. It’s unlikely that Sporting would sell both of their centre-backs in the same window, so the Magpies should move quickly, as there’s a long list of clubs watching both of them.
