Following signing Sandro Tonali, it seems Newcastle United have set their eyes on another promising Italian midfielder of the same generation.
We’re talking about Nicolo Zaniolo, who, in the winter transfer window, left AS Roma to join Galatasaray in a €15m deal.
According to a fresh report from TuttoMercatoWeb, Newcastle have ‘set their sights’ on the 24-year-old.
It’s claimed that the Magpies made initial contact and have gathered information about the player, who had an ‘excellent impact’ in his first months with Galatasaray.
That could be the major problem, as the story claims the Turkish side have absolutely no intention of selling him this summer.
It’s claimed that Zaniolo is followed by several Italian clubs, and Galatasaray recently turned down a €25m offer for him, showing their ‘lack of desire to negotiate’.
What is interesting is that, despite the situation, TuttoMercatoWeb still seem to consider Newcastle a strong contender for the signing. They say that with the Magpies in the battle for the midfielder, that makes it more difficult for Serie A clubs to bring him back to his home country.
Whoever wants him will have a hard job convincing Galatasaray.
