PSG welcome Lyon this evening in what is traditionally one of the bigger games of the French football season.
However, Lyon are having such a bad season that the match doesn’t carry a huge level of importance for them on a sporting basis. PSG are top, which is no surprise, but Lyon find themselves in 10th.
Hope of Champions League football has slipped away, and that will impact finances and also encourage some players to look towards the exit door. That’s where Newcastle United come in.
Sunday’s edition of L’Equipe has an article on Lyon’s Rayan Cherki. The 19-year-old has played 28 matches for the French club this season, mainly as an attacking midfielder. During that time he’s scored four goals and added four assists.
L’Equipe concentrate on PSG interest, with Newcastle United the only other club mentioned. It’s stated Eddie Howe’s side have already made contact and wanted to sign the youngster in January.
They’re expected to ‘get active’ again for Cherki in the coming months, and whilst it’s thought the player would much prefer a move to PSG, Newcastle could help push the price higher.
