Antonio Cordero completed a move to Newcastle United after leaving Málaga CF as a free agent at the end of last season.
The Magpies already stated, while announcing his arrival, that the 18-year-old will be sent out on loan this season.
On Monday, SportDirect Radio reported the Newcastle United player is set to join KCV Westerlo on loan this summer.
They also said Eddie Howe’s side had wanted to send him to a club that can offer him European football. That won’t happen with the Belgian side as they have failed to qualify for Europe this season.
Het Nieuwsblad backs up the Spanish report and provides the latest on Westerlo’s interest in the Spain U19 international.
The Jupiler Pro League side signed Spaniard Nacho Ferri from Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this month and are soon set to sign his compatriot on loan.
It’s claimed Cordero’s loan move to Belgium ‘will be finalised later this week’, once he completes his medical tests. In other words, he should undergo these examinations in the next few days.
Cordero scored six goals and registered seven assists from 39 Segunda División games for Málaga last season. Whether a move to Westerlo will help his progression more than staying in Spain would have is obviously questionable.
