Fanatik say Fenerbahçe still haven’t given up signing Arsenal’s Lucas Perez, but they face competition from Newcastle United.

It’s been widely reported in the Turkish media Fenerbahçe have been showing an interest in Perez, but these claims have gone quiet since they signed Roberto Soldado from Villarreal.

Fenerbahçe manager Aykut Kocaman wants to add another striker to his team, who can also operate in the wide positions, and Perez is seen as an alternative to Porto’s Vincent Aboubakar. Cameroon international Aboubakar was linked with Newcastle United himself earlier in the window.

The Turkish newspaper report Newcastle United are also keen on 29 year old Perez, as Rafael Benitez looks to bring new recruits before the window closes.

There have been concerns about Newcastle United’s activity in the transfer market this summer, with the club’s owner Mike Ashley recently criticised for not backing Benitez.

However, the Turkish press seem to be behind in their reporting on Perez, with the player looking on the verge of a move back to Spain with Deportvio. It seems Perez will ignore the advances of Newcastle United and Fenerbahçe to get a return to La Liga after just one season at Arsenal.
