Newcastle United are in position sign Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio in January, according to claims from Portugal.
As newspaper Record today writes about the centre-back’s future, they report the Lions await a bid for his departure.
It’s said Sporting don’t want to lose the player in the middle of the season, but do expect that some attempts will be made in the January transfer window.
Even though Inácio has been recently linked to Real Madrid, Newcastle are actually said to be the ‘best positioned’ club in the race.
Record claims that the Magpies have been making ‘frequent’ observations through the past year and are indeed very interested in Inácio.
Sporting have the defender’s price very clear, as they’re only letting him go if his €60m release clause is triggered.
Considering how interested Newcastle are said to be, they’re probably pretty much aware of that. They should also know that other Premier League clubs could battle for his signing as well.
Holding on to the clause is everything Sporting can do right now, so the Magpies shouldn’t even waste their time offering less than the amount set.
