Newcastle United’s interest in Vasco da Gama youngster Andrey Santos has now been backed up by the Brazilian media.

Last week, it had been the Spanish press who talked about the Magpies’ giving attention to the midfielder, who’s showing big potential in the second division this year.

Now as TNT Sports covers the news which says Andrey has just signed a new contract with the Rio de Janeiro side, they point out a few clubs who’ve been interested in the 18-year-old.

Newcastle are one of them, along with Barcelona and Flamengo. It’s said those sides all made contact to find out information on his situation.

The problem for those clubs is that Andrey has just signed a five-year contract with Vasco, and the local media hasn’t been making it clear if there’s a release clause in that deal.

So he may get quite expensive, especially with big clubs becoming interested.

Now if Newcastle and Barcelona interest was used exactly for the player to get a new deal with the club, that’s something which should become clear if the rumours about his future disappear in the coming months.
