Newcastle United’s Fabian Schär and Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins have both made it to Gazzetta dello Sport’s European Team of the Week.

Aston Villa secured a 2-0 victory over Arsenal on Sunday, a day after Newcastle sealed a comfortable 4-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur at home.

Leon Bailey opened the scoring in the 84th minute at the Emirates before the 28-year-old striker doubled Aston Villa’s lead three minutes later.

Meanwhile, Alexander Isak starred for the Magpies by scoring a brace against Spurs. Despite this, Gazzetta haven’t included him in their team of the week and have picked his teammate, Schär.

He started in the heart of Newcastle’s defence along with Emil Krafth and also got his name on the scoresheet at the weekend.

The 32-year-old Switzerland international’s defensive work against Spurs has pleased the newspaper, who have included him and Real Madrid’s Antonio Rüdiger as the two centre-backs.

Watkins is the only striker in Gazzetta’s European Team of the Week, with Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz and Atlético Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann all behind the Aston Villa player.

A nice bit of recognition for Watkins and Schär to be picked out.
