Newcastle United and Fulham flop Kevin Mbabu has suggested he’s got a little revenge on English football through Nottingham Forest.
Last week, the right-back returned to England with FC Midtjylland for their Europa League clash against Nottingham Forest. He was on the pitch for 66 minutes as the Danish club secured a 3-2 win over Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Blick have interviewed the 30-year-old and asked whether Midtjylland’s win over Nottingham Forest was some sort of Premier League revenge, after his ‘complicated experiences’ with Newcastle United and Fulham.
“Yes and no [smiles]. There’s that little motivation, in addition to showing English football that I’m up to the task, yes,” he said.
“I’ll do everything I can to continue, especially in the Europa League because that’s where we’re most exposed. I’m happy to have been able to deliver a great performance for the team and, above all, to come away with three points.”
The Switzerland international left his country for the first time when Newcastle signed him from Servette FC in 2013. The right-back played five games for the Magpies which were during the 2015/16 season.
In 2017, Mbabu left Newcastle to join Young Boys, who then sold him to VfL Wolfsburg in 2019. The fullback returned to England when Fulham signed him from the German club in 2022.
The Swiss defender played seven matches for Fulham. They sent him on loan to Servette and FC Augsburg before releasing him at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Midtjylland signed him on a free transfer in August 2024 and he’s featured regularly since then.
