There’s a claim in the Turkish media that former Lille midfielder Yusuf Yazıcı could be heading to the Qatar Stars League.

The Turkish international has been without a club since his contract with the Ligue 1 expired in the summer, which had led to claims of interest from Newcastle United and Aston Villa in the past week.

Takvim have reported on the latest developments regarding the future of Yazıcı and they say a ‘surprise offer’ has come in from an unnamed Qatari side. Previous reports in Turkey said the player is looking for a salary in the region of £100k a week.

The Turkish media outlet again report on Newcastle United and Aston Villa being two of the Premier League clubs who have been monitoring the situation. With the transfer window now closed in England it’s still possible to bring in free agents and it’s likely this is how these claims have surfaced.

Yazıcı made 41 appearances for Lille last season, scoring 12 goals. He’s been capped 45 times by his country and was part of the Turkish squad which reached the quarterfinals of this summer’s Euros.
