Newcastle United are edging closer to completing a deal for CA Osasuna’s Víctor Muñoz, according to multiple claims from Spain.
The Magpies sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona in May and identified Muñoz as the top target to replace him.
On Friday, we relayed news that several clubs are keen on the 22-year-old, but Newcastle United are offering the best deal.
Later that day, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain of the La Liga side negotiating after Eddie Howe’s side made a verbal offer of €30m.
Newcastle United move very close
Víctor Muñoz was the last player to return to full training with La Roja.
Saturday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo has a report focusing on this and also states he’s ‘very close’ to joining Newcastle United.
Another Spanish newspaper, AS, backs it up and provides more information on the details of the negotiations.
Víctor Muñoz has a €40m release clause while Newcastle United are offering just over €30m plus significant bonuses related to his performances.
Both his agent and the La Liga side are working on improving the overall fee and the payment terms.
The Spain international, for his part, is focusing on the World Cup. Meanwhile, his agent and CA Osasuna are working on his transfer to St. James’ Park.
Sources close to the La Liga side informed AS that Newcastle United could ‘imminently finalise’ the agreement. The two clubs are now sorting out the final details of the operation.
Osasuna consider player’s transfer as ‘done deal’ and have to pay 50% of the fee to his former club, Real Madrid, who also retain a buyback clause.
After reaching the final agreement with Newcastle United, the Spanish club are obliged to inform Los Blancos.
They have to then decide whether to activate the buyback option. On Friday, we relayed news Real Madrid are not planning to trigger this clause.

Barring a last-minute surprise, Newcastle United should soon find full agreement with CA Osasuna.
Whether Víctor Muñoz will carry out his medical tests in America or wait until after the World Cup remains to be seen.
The Spaniard managed seven goals and five assists from 36 matches this season.
