Newcastle United have been linked with Dusan Vlahovic for months, but now the situation has taken on a more positive framing.
Some weeks ago, Sport Witness covered how the Magpies had made initial contact for the Serbian. This didn’t tempt the striker, who was keen on playing in the Champions League and considering other options.
No other clubs have stepped forward for the former Fiorentina player. This has allowed Newcastle United to make in-roads over a deal.
Contacts intensifying
TuttoJuve report Eddie Howe’s side are keen on making a decisive move for Vlahovic. This has made them intensify contact with his entourage and initial discussions between the parties have been quite positive.
The 26-year-old has now shown willingness to move to England. The deal hasn’t closed but Newcastle United’s insistence is growing and they want to take advantage of his free agent status.
Vlahovic’s exit will allow Juve to save on their wage budget. It will help them make a major striker signing, with Randal Kolo Muani still a target.
Jonathan David and Lois Openda could also yet depart.
Salary will be key for Newcastle United
Dusan Vlahovic was on a huge salary at Juventus and that’s been behind the renewal issues.
With 10 goals in 23 matches last season, the Serbia international displayed his good ratio again. The lack of matches is largely down to a groin injury, and after his return from that he managed to score four goals in four matches.
That run at the end of the season made it harder for Juventus to negotiate a renewal.
In the 2024/25 season, Vlahovic scored 17 goals in 44 matches.
