The Paraguayan press is now pretty certain that Newcastle United are signing Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United.
Two outlets now have stories saying the transfer is almost done: Radio ABC Cardinal and newspaper El Intransigente.
Cardinal claimed that there’s an agreement ‘between all parties’, and the midfielder should become a Newcastle player soon, signing a deal in ‘the next few hours’.
El Intransigente brings a more complete article. They say West Ham, Newcastle, Arsenal and Tottenham are all after the Paraguayan star, but it’s the Magpies who have taken the lead in the race.
It’s said that Newcastle have made a US$28m (£22m) offer to Atlanta United, which could make Almiron the most expensive Paraguayan player ever.
El Intransigente keeps using ‘would’ constantly in their story, which doesn’t make it quite clear if they have the exclusive information. But that’s the most complete post we’ve seen in the past couple of days, and it includes the claim that ‘Atlanta would make the announcement in the next few hours’.
