Newcastle United are in a ‘tug of war’ with Paris Saint Germain to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby this summer.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the two sides are competing for the Frenchman’s signature, with him expected to depart Germany at the end of the season.
The newspaper explains that Leverkusen are ‘getting a completely new look’ next season, with several first-team stars set to depart after impressing in Germany.
Diaby is one of them, with a tally of 14 goals and 11 assists in 47 games in all competitions this season taking him to 49 goals and 48 assists in 171 games for the club. Impressive numbers to say the least.
He’s been of interest to clubs around Europe for some time, particularly Newcastle, who have been expressing an interest in him since last year.
It seems that remains the case, with SportBILD today now stating that they are in a ‘tug of war’ with PSG over the player.
It’s implied that both clubs are more than happy to pay what is required for Diaby’s signature and that it could be down to the player to decide where he goes. Leverkusen are, at least, expecting him to leave at some point.
The question is who Diaby who would choose. Newcastle can offer him big wages and Champions League football but so can PSG, who also have the bonus of being the youngster’s former club.
It therefore may be a question of whether he wants to return to Paris and prove himself or move to England and continue his upward trajectory in the Premier League.
Either way, Newcastle are very much still in the mix for his signature and even directly battling PSG for it according to SportBILD.
