Reports in the Brazilian now say that Newcastle United are interested in Grêmio youngster Nathan Fernandes.
The information was first published by Kaliel Dorneles on Twitter. There, he said the Magpies have been ‘monitoring’ the 19-year-old.
It’s claimed that Newcastle were initially ‘scared’ after learning the €20m request made by Grêmio.
Some similar claims are made by Portal do Gremista, who feature a story claiming there have been several approaches made for the teenager.
Newcastle are described as ‘one of the most interested’ sides, as they’ve been keeping an eye on them, but haven’t placed a formal offer yet.
Now even though Grêmio are said to be demanding €20m, telling the market they won’t let him go for less than that, it’s said that market specialists believe the youngster is worth €8m.
The Brazilian club have no hurry to sell, though, and won’t change their mind for now.
Nathan Fernandes has 32 appearances for Grêmio’s first team, with four goals and two assists so far. Newcastle United are unlikely to vastly overpay for him, so this one may slip away quietly.
