Newcastle United and Southampton may be keeping their interest in Gonçalo Ramos for next summer, but that won’t get Benfica to do anything desperate about his potential exit.
The striker has 23 goals for the Eagles this season, not to mention those for Portugal in the World Cup, and that has been making him their main asset for the next market.
He’s already well protected by a contract which runs until 2025, with a release clause worth €120m, but Benfica are already in talks to get that renewed.
That’s today said by newspaper O Jogo, who points out that clubs like Newcastle and Southampton are in the race for him.
The outlet claims Benfica remain ‘calm’ about the situation, especially because in case there’s no deal for a renewal, the current contract includes clauses for automatic extension.
The Eagles now work to get the player rewarded for his great season, and want to give him a pay raise to keep him happy at the club.
Now in case Newcastle and Southampton really come for him, they don’t only need to convince Benfica with a big fee, but also beat other clubs in competition, since the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain are said to be interested in him as well.
