Newcastle United are among the four clubs in the race to sign Fiorentina’s Nicolás González this summer.
That’s according to Quotidiano Sportivo, who say Newcastle and Atlético Madrid are the 26-year-old’s two foreign suitors. The other two clubs interested are Atalanta and Juventus.
On Monday, the winger returned to Fiorentina after his holidays, while his agent also arrived in Italy. The Argentina international’s future is likely to be away from the Serie A side.
His agent will have a face-to-face meeting with Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Pradè today, to define the best possible route for González to secure an exit. The report states the Italian club will need at least €30m to sanction the player’s sale.
Atalanta have shown interest in the Copa América winner, but their priority now is to sign a new centre forward, after Gianluca Scamacca suffered a serious knee injury. Juventus, on the other hand, have made first contacts to try and sign him.
Quotidiano Sportivo claim Newcastle and the La Liga side ‘shouldn’t be underestimated’ in the race to sign González, especially since they have already contacted his agent.
The South American ‘will leave’ Fiorentina, and it’ll be interesting to see if the Magpies can secure his services in this window.
