French winger Florian Thauvin spent the last six months on loan at Marseille, after failing to make an impact at St. James’ Park.
The Magpies have been relegated to the Championship, and that obviously puts Thauvin’s future in doubt at the club.
La Provence in France say Marseille should agree a loan extension with Newcastle for Thauvin.
Another season on loan at the Ligue 1 does seem to be a perfect decision for all parties involved, as Newcastle would be hoping for a quick return to the Premier League.
The 23-year-old signed for Newcastle at the start of the season in a €18.5m deal, and Newcastle would find it very difficult to recoup that amount if they decide to offload him permanently this summer.
Thauvin made 20 appearances for Marseille, since signing for them on loan in January, and has found the back of the net four times.
Previously a Thauvin continuation had seemed implausible for La Provence, but things are changing.
