Newcastle United are interested in Celta Vigo youngster Gabri Veiga and scouted the player earlier this month.
That’s according to AS, who say the latest Spanish talent has been noticed by those in charge at Saint James Park.
The newspaper explains that Vega is ‘one of the fashionable’ players in La Liga, with his first since months in the division enough to confirm he is a player to keep an eye on.
He was promoted to the first team last summer and has been shining ever since, with six goals and two assists in 21 games in the league so far.
Those numbers have made him ‘one of the revelations’ of Spanish football, particularly given he didn’t have a squad number until January. By February he was one of the player of the month candidates.
That high level is ‘not going unnoticed’ by the big sides in Spain or by several English clubs, who have already ‘monitored’ him.
At the moment Celta are not interested in a sale but they know he is one of their main assets and those in charge at the club are convinced he will become the highest sale in their history.
They ‘hope’ to secure a figure of around €30m and are protected by the fact he has a contract until 2026. There is a feeling it will be ‘very difficult’ for Celta to keep him this summer, though.
Whether Newcastle will be in the picture remains to be seen but they have scouted him in person, which suggests they are keen on him and planning a move as they continue to build under Eddie Howe.
