Newcastle United will make a move for Rennes midfielder Désiré Doué before the end of the January transfer window.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the Magpies and Borussia Dortmund are planning to ‘return to the charge’ for the highly rated youngster.
The newspaper reports that Doué could be one of the hot issues at the end of the window, with Rennes expecting to be attacked in the coming days.
According to them the attacking midfielder is of interest to many clubs but specifically Newcastle and Dortmund, with both clubs planning to take action before the window closes.
Both sides took steps to ‘gather as much information’ as possible on the player before entering a more concrete phase of negotiations for him.
Doué has found himself in trouble with Rennes in recent months, being demoted from the first team before returning at the end of December.
That situation opened the door to other clubs and could lead to a departure this month, although that will depend on the amounts either side can put on the table.
That’s a big question when it comes to Newcastle, who have made it clear that they can’t spend this month due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.
Thus, it would appear they haven’t got the money available for a move for Doué, not unless there is a major sale before the end of the window.
