Newcastle United are still showing an ‘interest’ in Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby who is ‘aiming for a move to England’ this summer.
That’s according to Sport BILD, who say Leverkusen are expecting a transfer fee of at least €60m for the Frenchman.
The newspaper details how Leverkusen as closing in on a deal for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Jonas Hofmann, who would be a direct replacement for Diaby on the right wing in Xabi Alonso’s side.
The plan is for him to take over from Diaby, who has long been linked with a move away after continuing to impress in the Bundesliga last season.
He is ‘aiming for a move’ to England where he, fortunately on that front, has interest from Newcastle, or to his former club Paris Saint Germain.
The Magpies have been credited with an interest for the best part of two years, and that has not died down in the last few months, with various reports claiming they remained keen last month.
One stated that they ‘wanted’ to sign him to bolster their squad for the Champions League next season why and that followed by a claim they wanted to make him one of the faces of their project moving forwards.
SportBILD now continue to insist that they are interested, and Diaby would be more than happy to move to England if it is offered to him.
That would take Newcastle paying his €60m fee, which, despite their vast funds, may be in question after their big money move for Sandro Tonali.
