For reasons which aren’t entirely clear, Italian newspaper Il Sussidiario has interviewed Simone Canovi and the theme was almost entirely Harry Kane and a potential transfer this summer.

Canovi has worked as an agent and scout, with his most recent role being at AS Roma. Kane has been, albeit weakly, linked with Juventus at various points, and the Italian was asked whether a move there could happen for the Tottenham player, and he replied: “When it comes to Juventus everything is possible, we know that the club is always able to make important purchases. But I don’t think they want to make such a big investment in this case.”

After ruling out the Turin club, Canovi did the same for Inter Milan, because they simply don’t have the finances, and he then named Real Madrid and Newcastle United as the two clubs he believes could afford to sign Kane.

“In fact, they are the only two clubs capable of taking Kane,” he stated. “With Newcastle having a very high economic budget with the new Arab owners.”

The claims are quite strange. Newcastle’s takeover hasn’t yet gone through, and even if it does they’d still have to abide by Financial Fair Play rules. Harry Kane himself would clearly get a say in any move, and if he’s to leave Spurs then it’s unlikely he’s going to be tempted by the prospect of joining the Magpies.

What it all does show is that Newcastle are being taken very seriously around European football, and are expected to spend big should the takeover go through.
