Newcastle United were keen on signing Sven Botman in the winter market and have the Lille star on their agenda for the next window. For the past few weeks, various reports from Italy have placed AC Milan in pole position to sign the defender in the summer.

According to Pianeta Milan, the Tyneside club have ‘almost definitely’ lost the Dutchman to the Serie A side.

The report says the disappointment of failing to take the centre-back has left Eddie Howe’s side wanting to ‘take revenge on the Rossoneri’ and therefore, they are looking at Renato Sanches.

Although the Lille midfielder is ‘increasingly in the sights of Milan’, as a replacement for the outgoing Franck Kessié, the Premier League side ‘want to try to catch’ the 24-year-old after this season.

Newcastle ‘want to take revenge’ on the Italian club, which is why they will try to sign the former Bayern Munich man. To do that, the report states they would be ‘ready to satisfy the economic demands’ of both the Portugal international and Lille.

The website follows it up by stating: ‘With Lille, the bianconeri would reach an agreement of around 30 million, an evaluation of the boy’s card, who would receive a salary of 6 million, a figure far from the Rossoneri’s coffers.’

Although the English club are ready to satisfy Sanches and Lille financially, that will not have any bearing as the report says the player has ‘long ago chosen Milan’.

The Italian confidence, misplaced or not, over the Lille players continues.
