As you might have heard over the past week or so, there has been a lot of talk of late of Newcastle United reportedly being after Dusan Vlahovic.
It made little sense, considering the Magpies spent €70m on Alexander Isak in the summer, and the Sweden international is starting to repay that fee with some goals, as he was instrumental in Newcastle’s win at the weekend over Nottingham Forest.
What could work for Eddie Howe and company, however, would be a young and talented forward to pair Isak with, which is where Rasmus Højlund would come in, according to Tutto Atalanta.
The Italian website, according to their own sources, state that both Arsenal and Newcastle are ‘willing to shell out up to €50m’ to secure the Danish forward’s services after watching his strong performances for Atalanta.
In fact, they add that his ‘exponential growth’ of the striker has ‘shifted the focus of the two English clubs’ from the aforementioned Serbia international to ‘the promising Højlund’.
Therefore, Atalanta ‘could realise an important capital gain’, having only signed him last summer for €17m, allowing them at the very least a €33m profit in the space of a year.
Whether Newcastle do make that move remains to be seen, but it makes a lot more sense than Vlahovic, all the while bolstering Howe’s attack for next season.
