While Newcastle United are likely to have a lot of money to spend this summer, the prospect of adding experience on a free transfer will also be enticing.

After all, the Magpies will want a mix of veterans and youth to ensure their club has both the legs and the brains needed to compete in the Premier League forward.

That’s why seeing them linked with Ivan Perisic, whose contract at Inter expires in the summer, isn’t surprising.

Not only that, but it’s claimed Newcastle United are poised to make a move.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who explain Inter have been ‘in contact with those who have looked after his interests since November’, and have made two renewal offers.

The first was of €4m, but his performances have forced them to up that to €4.5m, which is ‘slightly less than his current salary’.

This is where Newcastle come in, because while Perisic is reflecting on the idea of continuing in Milan, the Magpies are ‘ready to offer him a slurry of €6.5m/year net per season’.

This is a ‘wide’ gap between what Inter have on the table for him and what the Magpies could give him, and the player is now ‘faced with a life choice: stay at Inter and in Italy, where he is now perfectly integrated, or to open up a new adventure, starting over with new goals and horizons at 34’.
