Newcastle United, in their bid to strengthen their squad ahead of a season in the Champions League, are targeting Dominik Szoboszlai.

The RB Leipzig midfielder has been a name linked with a move to St James’ Park for some time now, but L’Equipe in France suggest a move is on its way.

The news comes amid an article regarding the German club’s interest in Loïs Openda, with RC Lens already turning down two offers for their star.

However, the fear is that, should Newcastle sign the Hungarian midfielder, they will have a ‘bigger room for manoeuvre’ on the transfer market.

This is because the Premier League club are ‘preparing to make a staggering offer’ for the 22-year-old, who scored six goals and assisted another eight in 31 league appearances this season.

Therefore, Newcastle’s money could go straight into a new bid for Openda, which is a cause for worry at Lens, as there is only so much they can refuse.

Something to keep an eye on as the Hungary international certainly fits the bill when it comes to the type of players Eddie Howe has been going after since his arrival.
