On December 29th, we relayed news from Italy that Newcastle United are ‘ready to move right away’ for Sven Botman.
AC Milan are in the market for a new defender following Simon Kjær’s long-term setback and have identified the Lille player as their main target.
This is again relayed by Sky Italia, who add the 21-year-old tops the Serie A side’s wish list in the mid-season window. The French club are having economic difficulties and Sky Italia say they are asking for €20m to cut ties with the centre-back in January.
Stefano Pioli’s side are working on different formulas, trying to take advantage of the Ligue 1 side’s financial situation. They are waiting to take the Dutchman on a loan deal with the right of redemption, but it’s not clear whether Lille will accept this formula.
Eddie Howe’s side having an interest in the Netherlands U21 international and Lille’s need to raise funds is also reported by Calciomercato.
Newcastle are the ‘danger number one’ to the Italian club in the race to sign Botman. Although Newcastle are in the picture, the report states the player is ‘not intrigued’ by the Premier League side.
Milan, for their part, are set to proceed with caution and have a meeting with Lille to find out if a loan with redemption option can be agreed for the defender’s transfer. They are convinced with Botman and want to invest on securing his services.
